Creative Salesman (Joke)
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday, December 5th, 2005 :: 12:24 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

John was a clerk in a small drugstore but he was not much of a salesman. He could never find the item the customer wanted. Bob, the owner, had about enough and warned John that the next sale he missed would be his last.

Just then a man came in coughing and he ask John for their best cough syrup. Try as he might John could not find the cough syrup. Remembering Bob's warning he sold the man a box of Ex-Lax and told him to take it all at once.

The customer did as John said and then walked outside and leaned against a lamp post.

Bob had seen the whole thing and came over to ask John what had transpired.

"He wanted something for his cough but I couldn't find the cough syrup. I substituted Ex-Lax and told him to take it all at once" John explained.

"Ex-Lax won't cure a cough!" Bob shouted angrily.

"Sure it will" John said, pointing at the man leaning on the lamp post.

"Just look at him. He's afraid to cough!"

Building vs. Demolition Crew (Building Wins)
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday, December 5th, 2005 :: 12:11 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

Over the weekend, thousands gathered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to watch the demolition of the city's tallest building...the Zip Feed Mill. Demolition crews rigged the building with explosives, counted down to zero and pressed the button. The explosive went off, the building collapsed a few stories and then stopped. I guess you could say the building won.

How bad is this for the demolition crew? Can you say embarrasing?

Two More Weeks
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday, December 5th, 2005 :: 12:11 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

Only two more weeks till we take off for our annual Christmas vacation. We'll be flying into Richmond this year to hang with my bro and his wife before trekking down to SoBo for Christmas.

For all our east coast peeps...we'll be in SoBo Friday, December 23rd - Monday December 26th. Not long this year but I'm sure we'll be out and about Friday and/or Saturday night. We'll keep you updated.

Sleeping Beauty

I came downstairs Saturday night to catch Kim fast asleep under a pile of pillows and blankets. We had a long, busy day and I guess she was a little pooped out. My sleeping beauty....

Chilly Sunset In Redondo
Posted by Jimmy :: Sunday, December 4th, 2005 :: 11:48 PM PST :: Comment On This Post

It's finally starting to cool down here in the South Bay. Feels like "Fall" right now with the air getting chilly once the sunsets. We were running around most of the day and happened to be near the pier near sunset so we decided to stop and watch. Not one of the "prettiest" sunsets of the year but I don't think there's a such thing as an ugly sunset here.

Merry Christmas From Prilosec
Posted by Jimmy :: Sunday, December 5th, 2005 :: 4:37 PM PST :: Comment On This Post

I guess the makers of Prilosec OTC (heartburn medicine) wanted to make opening their product similar to opening lots of presents on Christmas morning. I got this 28 count box of Prilosec over this weekend and could only shake my head at the idiocy of putting boxes, inside of boxes, inside of boxes. Maybe this stuff wouldn't cost so much if they would eliminate all the redundant packaging. There's at least 3 unnecessary boxes here.

Box #1 From The Store

Inside Box #1,  Another Box

Inside Box #2, Two more boxes

Finally, the product....kinda!

BEST CHRISTMAS LIGHTS EVER: Part II
Posted by Jimmy :: Wednesday, November 30th, 2005 :: 12:34 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

The owners of this house have done another song/lightshow which is pretty cool. It's not as good as the original one they did but still pretty sweet. Clark Griswald would be proud and whenever I get my first house....you better believe I'm gonna be doing this kind of stuff. :-) Check 'em both out!

I was almost at a loss for words when I ran across this...The Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Club. This guy is not only a member...he's the president. And judging from this photo....probably very lonely! The have a whole website for people who collect vacuum cleaners, a quarterly newsletter and even have an annual convention. Their news page is pretty cool too! I'm joining today!.........NOT!

My First PHP Script
Posted by Jimmy :: Tuesday, November 28th, 2005 :: 12:19 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

Note: This post will mean nothing to most of you but some of my fellow tech geeks will appreciate it.

I've been learning a new programming language as of late and wrote my first PHP script last nite. I'm working on website for a restaurant and they wanted to rotate their daily special on their homepage. I had already built the rest of the site using PHP includes and decided to try writing a PHP script to rotate the daily special.

It took me several hours to get it write because I was actually putting too many commands in it (echo & print) but once I simplified it, it started working like a charm. I guess less is more! Here's the script for anyone that ever wants to rotate html content on a daily basis. Enjoy Nerds!

<?php
if( date( 'w' ) == 0 ) {
//its sunday
?>
<div>html for sunday special</div>
<?
}
if( date( 'w' ) == 1 ) {
//its monday
?>
<div>html for monday special</div>
<?
}
if( date( 'w' ) == 2 ) {
//its tuesday
?>
<div>html for tuesday special</div>
<?
}
if( date( 'w' ) == 3 ) {
//its wednesday
?>
<div>html for wednesday special</div>
<?
}
if( date( 'w' ) == 4 ) {
//its thursday
?>
<div>html for thursday special</div>
<?
}
if( date( 'w' ) == 5 ) {
//its friday
?>
<div>html for friday special</div>
<?
}
if( date( 'w' ) == 6 ) {

Just Great....I'm Sick!
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday, November 28th, 2005 :: 8:17 PM PST :: Comment On This Post

Well I guess being around the "infected" holiday crowds over the weekend has caused me to come down with something. I'm not sure if it's just a really bad cold or the flu yet but either way...I'm sick. That's what I get for going around actual people...ha-ha!

That's another advantage I've enjoyed by working from home. I rarely come into contact with the general public and all their germs and as such, I haven't been sick in years. I wonder if I'm going to turn into one of those old guys whose obsessed with germs? I already wash my hands like 20 times a day. LOL!

Anyway...I'm not bed ridden yet and will be at my post (the pc) tomorrow.

Peter Griffin Christmas
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday, November 28th, 2005 :: 12:49 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

I'm a HUGE fan of Family Guy and this next video is a fine example of the kind of low brow humor that is so funny. It's Peter Griffin singing some holiday songs that he clearly doesn't know the words to.

Very funny...I only wish it was longer.

It's NOT The Virgin Mary
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday, November 28th, 2005 :: 12:32 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

Everyone knows how I feel about the stupidity of the Muslim religion but I need to give some equal time to delusions of "some" Catholics this week. For the life of me I can't figure out why people are always seeing The Virgin Mary in taco salads, grilled cheese sandwiches or in weirdly formed bark patterns like the picture below. IT'S NOT THE VIRGIN MARY! It's not a sign of anything. It doesn't have healing powers and it can't answer your prayers. It's just a tree.

The Snow Had To Go
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday, November 28th, 2005 :: 12:32 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

As many of you may have seen over the weekend, I had some falling snow on my webpage, but it had to go...at least for the time being. The java script which made it work conflicted with my rotating pictures and made them stop rotating. I'll see if I can find another one when I get a chance.

Elf Watching
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday, November 28th, 2005 :: 12:05 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

After a loooooong weekend of holiday decorating and shopping, we finally crashed on the sofa Sunday night and watched one of our new holiday favorites Elf starring Will Ferrell. Kinda like the Rudolph special and Christmas Vacation, it's not really Christmas until you've seen your favorite holiday movies.

Decorating The Tree (And Other Stuff)
Posted by Jimmy :: Monday, November 27th, 2005 :: 12:00 AM PST :: Comment On This Post

After getting the tree up Saturday night, we spent Sunday night decorating it and putting up some of our other Christmas decor. We decided to go for an eclectic look on our tree this year using every ornament of every style we have. The main thing we decided was not to use garland so we have to buy some more ornaments to fill out the tree some more.

Kim also set up our Rudolph scene...you know...from the Rudolph special that comes on every year. That was always my favorite Christmas show each year and we'll be watching it very soon on DVD.

A Tree For Our Dearly Departed Friend
Posted by Jimmy :: Sunday, November 27th, 2005 :: 11:55 PM PST :: Comment On This Post

This is our second year without our good friend Poochie and we put up a little tree in memory of him this year. There's not a day that goes by that we don't think about our old friend  and pulling out all of "his" ornaments certainly stirs up a lot of emotions.

We really miss him.

Putting Up The Tree
Posted by Jimmy :: Sunday, November 27th, 2005 :: 11:50 PM PST :: Comment On This Post

True to my word, I wasted no time in putting up the tree this year. The only part of Thanksgiving I was looking forward to was the day after so I could start decorating for my favorite holiday. Our tree is one of those pre-lit (and spinning) ones which takes like 10 minutes to put together and two hours to fluff out. My hands and arms were raw by the end of the night.

Someone was trying to be a Grinch this year and didn't even want to put up a tree but that "someone" came around in the end. I'm pretty sure she'll be in the Christmas spirit once she sees her presents piling up under the tree. :-)

Spring Cleaning In December
Posted by Jimmy :: Sunday, November 27th, 2005 :: 11:45 PM PST :: Comment On This Post

Much to Kim's chagrin, I insisted on getting the Christmas tree out this weekend but some good became of it. Since it was such a nice day outside and we rarely dig through all our stuff in storage, we decided to do some "spring cleaning" while we were digging out the tree. We spent most of the daylight hours weeding out junk and who knows, we may even have a yard sale next weekend.

Five years ago during out first Christmas, we were freezing our tails off in twenty degree weather (in Virginia of course) picking out our first tree and here in California we were breaking a sweat in shorts and tees. I certainly don't miss the cold, that much is for sure.

Sad News In Washington
Posted by Jimmy :: Sunday, November 27th, 2005 :: 11:40 PM PST :: Comment On This Post

The Supreme Court has ruled that there cannot be a Nativity Scene in Washington, DC this Christmas season. This isn't for any religious reason; they simply have not been able to find three wise men and a virgin in the Nation's capitol.

There was no problem, however, finding enough asses to fill the stable.

Honda's "PC" Christmas Commercial
Posted by Jimmy :: Sunday, November 27th, 2005 :: 11:39 PM PST :: Comment On This Post

I was watching TV this weekend and saw a Honda commercial where they had changed the words of "We wish you a Merry Christmas" to "We wish you a Happy Holiday". Another example of political correctness gone too far. How arrogant is it for a Japanese auto maker to advertise during a Christian based holiday but change the words of a Christmas carol so as not to offend anyone who's not a Christian? That makes about as much sense as Hugh Hefner throwing a Ramadan party at the Playboy mansion.
